AFPA’s Food & Beverage Health & Safety Officer (F&BHSO) designation is for those individuals wishing to achieve formal recognition for their efforts and commitment to workplace safety in our industry.
This designation is similar and follows the same basic principles and foundational requirements as the ACSA’s National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO) or the MHSA’s Manufacturing Safety Officer (MSO) designations.
Requirements
To obtain the F&BHSO designation candidates must complete – or have previously completed – all six AFPA COR courses, plus required elective courses and challenge the exam (80% pass) to obtain this designation.
Maintenance
To maintain the designation you must attend professional development, management, or any workplace safety courses over a three-year cycle, then attend a refresher course with exam (80% pass).
Community
AFPA and your industry now have eight recognized F&BHSOs. All of these dedicated safety professionals have met the requirements and were successful on their final exam on Aug 23, 2019.

Debbie Stankowski, Capital Fine Meats; Cindy Baxter-Pro, Western Plastics; Mike Foisy, MF Consulting; Andre Morin (formally Gordon Food Service); Brad Harrison and Andrew Allan, Gordon Food Service; and Cherienne Whitson, Bunge Canada
Ashley Ford was focussed on being the first to earn the new designation, and we are proud to celebrate her achievement.
